Campus Carry Interviews

Q- What were the thoughts or fears that you had when the campus carry went into effect in 2016?
A- It was the summer after my freshman year of college and I honestly didn’t know what to expect.
I felt like it was such a controversial issue. People were either totally against it or all for it. Then there
were also people like me, who really didn’t know what was going on. I remember hearing about the bill
but I didn’t really think it was going to get passed. When it got passed it was more of a “wow, what now”
moment.

Q- How do you feel about the issue now? Have your feelings changed?
A- Honestly, I almost forget that this bill was passed. When it was first passed, I was nervous about being
on campus, because I feared that maybe someone would get triggered by what people at the Stallions
were either protesting or discussing. Thankfully, none of that has happened. Overtime I kinda just forgot
about it. It didn’t affect my studies and it didn’t prevent me from going to campus.

Q- If given the option, would you get your CHL license?
A- Oh no. Guns aren’t for everyone and they’re definitely not for me. I can barely keep up with my phone
sometimes, that I couldn’t even imagine trying to keep up with a gun.

Q- Do you think your opinions on guns have changed within the last 2 years? If so, how?
A- Of course. I always like to think both sides to every story and I don’t think I would of thought that way
2 years ago. So I can see how campus carry can be effective, but I can see how it could cause more
problems too. I think it all depends on the way we enforce the law.

Q- What were the thoughts or fears that you had when the campus carry went into effect in 2016?
A- I know a lot of people were upset and scared. I don’t go to the university often but events that happen
at the school also affect the community. I live in San Marcos and I work with a lot of college students and
I know some people did not feel comfortable.

Q- How do you feel about the issue now? Have your feelings changed?
A- I think there are bad people in the world and sometimes it would be ideal to protect yourself from
them. In a perfect world, this bill would be good. Especially with the events that have been happening
throughout the country with school shootings, my support for the bill has increased. I’m not sure if this bill
applies to elementary and high schools. I think if licensed gun owners had the extra protection for self
defense in these situations, it would be okay. But like I said, in a perfect world.

Q- If given the option, would you get your CHL license?
A- I’ve really thought about it but no.

Q- Do you think your opinions on guns have changed within the last 2 years? If so, how?

A- No. I’ve never been totally against guns and people having guns but I do think there should be more
restrictions so guns don’t end up in the wrong hands.
